HDD Bore
Planner - DrillSmart 4.0
DrillSmart has been developed for HDD professionals to provide pre-drill planning
assistance. It helps users speed up the plan process for HDD
project and manipulate data electronically. DrillSmart can run in both
desktop PC and pocket PC.

Main Features of DrillSmart
for Desktop/Laptop PC
1. Friendly graphic user interface
As a standard Windows application, DrillSmart is
powered with friendly graphic user interfaces. Users do not need to have
much computer knowledge and skills. It is easy to learn and easy to use.
2. Powerful and flexible view
and print functions
DrillSmart displays topography and drill path
graphically (profile or plan view) or tabularly on screen. Users can
print out what they can see on the screen. By a mouse click, DrillSmart
can generate a planning report or a finished project report.
3. Data and image export
DrillSmart has the ability to export the drill path
data to a text file and to export the content shown on the screen to an
image file. You can also export the drill paths to DXF files.
4. Topographic data input
DrillSmart can help users to input topographic data
efficiently. Once the distance value has been entered, DrillSmart will
automatically generate the east and north coordinates. With the
"simple survey method" of DrillSmart, users only need to input
the angle of a line segment between two points and DrillSmart will
automatically calculate the distance, depth, east coordinate, and north
coordinate.
5. Drill path planning
Based on the target information provided by the user,
DrillSmart will automatically generate the drill path. The user can
change the path shape by adjusting the entry/exit angle, bend radius, or
the number of drill rods that will not be bent at the entry and exit end
so that the restrictions from the actual drilling equipment, products
and geological settings can be satisfied. The path shape can also be
adjusted by a mouse drag after the path is created.
6. Built data recording and rod
placement prediction
The recording and the rod placement predication
function for the built path will help users to minimize the deviation of
the actual path from the planned path. If an obstacle occurs during the
drilling process, users may use the adjusting planned path function to
calculate the best retreated distance and to create a new path segment
from the retreated point. The prediction function will automatically
generate a predicted placement for the next rod after the user enters
the current record.
7. Miscellaneous calculations
Once the drill path has been generated, DrillSmart
can help users to calculate the path length, the total number of rods,
the maximum load of the installation, the bundle diameter, the reamed
diameter, the total weight of the product being installed, and the
allowable pull load for the product. It also helps the user to estimate
the proper mud pump rate and the total amount of mud needed for the
project.
8. Warning messages
When the planned drill path has been generated, or a
depth value of the built path has been edited, or an utility has been
added to the utility table, DrillSmart will perform minimum cover and
clearance check. A warning message will appear if there is any
inconsistency.
